World Telugu Conference 2017: Bammera Pothana stage as its venue in Lal Bahadur stadium, the five-day event of the World Telugu Conference successfully ended with the valedictory session of the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. The World Telugu Conference was conducted by Telangana Government magnanimously, first of its kind, after the bifurcation of Telugu speaking states. This event reflected a mirror image of the Telugu language, culture, literature, and its tradition.

Post bifurcation, Telangana government is striving hard to show the importance of Telugu language with its own identity focusing on local art and dance forms and rewrite history textbooks so as to bring the attention of the “Telugu” language claiming to be the origin of the roots of the language in Telangana state.

The president during his valedictory speech had stated that Telugu is the second largest spoken languages in the world, the first being Hindi language. This event has been witnessed by more than 6,000 delegates, being held at six venues across the city. Daily plenary and evening cultural programmes were also being held to host literary discussions, poetry recitations, and cultural programmes.
“Telugu Language has its own finesse` and this language is being widely-spoken from South Africa to South eastern, Asian regions in the world” Ram Nath Kovind said.
Ram Nath Kovind showered many praises on the elegance of the Telugu language and mentioned the names of the Telugu people who brought fame to India. He quoted the names of top-notch Telugu people in various fields such as Pharma, Techno, Economic, political and societal. While stating this president of India had mentioned the names of Satya Nadella and Yellapragada Subba Rao.
“Telugu Language land gave birth to Vattikota Alwar Swamy who sprinkled the showers of Telugu language in the literary field and also Dasharadhi, Tyagaraya and Annamayya. Apart from the names stated in the field of Telugu literature, there have been many dedicated Telugu people in socio-cultural fields who fought with their fists up to bring about a change in the society; Role models – Alluri Seetha Rama Raju, Komaram Bheem, Chityala Ellamma and Bhagya Reddy Varma were hailed from the sacred Telugu land” Ram Nath Kovind opined.
“Telugu language was well-recognized and given the ‘Heritage Status’ by the central government in 2008 itself and will never forget the pivotal role the language has been playing in the evolution of mankind” the President added.
He made sure to mention the names of his predecessors who served the country at the highest posts as presidents – Dr. Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan, V.V.Giri and the name of ex-Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao who was a polyglot himself; the newly formed Telangana State is far ahead in all fields” Ram Nath mentioned. His speech brought cheers to many audiences when the president talked about the highly popular Hyderabad Biryani, Badminton and the movie ‘Bahubali’
The president praised the organizers who successfully conducted such a mega event which stays as a feather in their caps.
Governor E.S.L Narasimham Speech in WTC 2017
E.S.L. Narasimhan, the Governor of Telugu speaking states in his speech included that the five-day mega event had been witnessed by linguists from 18 states at the national level and 42 countries at the global level. The Governor recommended that Telugu speaking parents must give Telugu books as gifts to their children and the media network must play a responsible role. On this occasion, he quoted the song written by the poet Rayaprolu’s well-known-master-piece, “Cheyyetti Jai Kotttu Telugoda”.
Telangana Chief Minister KCR Speech in WTC 2017
K.Chandra Sekhar Rao, the chief minister of Telangana assured that his government would take all precautionary measures to help improve and protect the Telugu language and as a part of this the Telangana State government machinery will conduct a two-day Telugu conference in the month of December, every year. He stated to have said that he would bring an ordinance making Telugu Language as a mandatory subject starting from 1st standard to Intermediate level. Well-known in his language skills, the chief minister, spontaneously recited some poems those that he learned during his childhood. The chief minister’s recital of those poems was well received by the guests and gave a standing ovation. He gave accolades to Deepika Reddy group which played ‘Perini’ dance, the popular dance that highlighted the Telangana culture. Many luminaries from political and literary fields attended the conference and applauded the organizers.
