Lepakshi Festival (Utsavalu): Hindupur MLA and actor – ‘Nandamuri Balakrishna’ in his official announcement on 25th January 2018 had asked the officials to bring a festive mood and celebrate ‘Lepakshi Utsavalu’ – expected to be conducted on 9th and 10th of March 2018 in a grandiose manner.

Lepakshi Festival is an annual event sponsored by the State Government honoring the cultural and religious heritage and showcasing stunning architectural structures. Celebrities get invited and overall it has always been an awestruck festival observed since long with the sponsorship of the Government.  But, as per the latest announcement from ‘Nandamuri Balakrishna made recently stated that the already slated event that is to be held on 9th and 10th of March 2018 got rescheduled and would be held on 31st March and 1st of April 2018.

Anantapur District Collector, Veera Pandyan, in his press conference mentioned that – Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna is in his strong willpower to make this festival a ‘historic event’ which should stay in the annals of Anantapur District by bringing ‘Krishna’ waters through Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project which was expected to be completed by the first week of March but still stayed unfinished at its edges. The relentless Nandamuri Balakrishna, despite the criticisms made by some fringe groups never cared to absorb any sort of cynicism.

He made his stance clear to say, “I do not want to compromise on this issue and wait until I invite ‘Krishna Waters’ with traditional customs and then we celebrate ‘Lepakshi Utsavalu.’

He is happy to say, “The event this year must bring cheers to farmers in the drought-prone region.” Furthering his speech, Balakrishna said, “We made our best efforts to complete the project by 1st week of March and due to some unforeseen circumstances it just got a bit delayed. We are just around the corner to complete this project, not taking too long – and we will make Lepakshi Festival” – this year the most memorable event.

“The irrigation department is expediting its work and we are sure of conducting the festival on 31st March and 1st of April 2018, preceded by ‘JALA HARATI’ to Krishna waters first” – Balakrishna expressed it with his confidence.

The ‘Jala-Harati’ and the festival will be officially inaugurated by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister – Sri. Nara Chandra Babu Naidu who is going to be the chief guest of this event. As per the previous announcement, the festival was expected to have embedded with the celebrities – Musician Sivamani and veteran actress Hema Malini, actors Mahesh Babu and Tammannah to witness the event. But now, since the wake of its rescheduling, the details of the event may be changed and yet to be confirmed by the official machinery. Interestingly, farmers are coordinating in the completion of the project and providing their full support to their MLA – Nandamuri Balakrishna.
